We loved Casa Generosa

A beautifully restored old finca house in the countryside about 20 mins from Faro. We loved Casa Generosa and the setting so much we've already booked it next year.

It is set in a huge garden with cactus, olive, carob and citrus trees and surrounded by stunning green countryside and hills with houses dotted around. We like to have neighbours close enough to not feel isolated but also far enough away for us to feel like we are having a wonderfully private holiday all to ourselves and Casa Generosa provided exactly this.
The house is beautifully decorated with a mix of vintage and new with yellow shutters on the outside that look so lovely against the whitewashed walls. It has very generous proportions throughout and all the rooms and bathrooms are a great size.
There's plenty of space for everyone and really comfortable spots inside and out to either read a book, watch TV or just relax. Wifi was a little patchy and slow at times but we didn't need it for much, just checking emails and watching a film and it worked OK for this.
The kitchen is really big with lots of counter space and storage and kitted out with everything you need if you want to cook and eat at home. There's air-con in all the bedrooms and sitting room so it was lovely and cool when we wanted it to be.

There's a lovely terrace out the front that looks out over the countryside, and in the distance down to Faro and the beach, we ate lunch there most days listening to the cicadas sing. There's also a roof terrace with comfy seating so you can watch the sun set and the moon come out from up there – the perfect thing to do on holiday. The pool is beautiful with green tiles and lots of comfy beds to relax on and we spent most of our days out here. When we did drag ourselves away from the house, the nearest village is about 8 mins away with a supermarket and pharmacy and other towns are about 12-15 mins away for bigger food shopping, restaurants and cafes etc.
There is also a big shopping mall with a supermarket about 15 mins away.
Just down the road from the house (about 2 mins in the car) there's a little local restaurant that does a simple menu of grilled chicken and fish – all delicious. It was busy every lunch and dinner whenever we went by. So if you do want to venture out there's plenty of places to go and there's also Faro if you want to go to a larger town.

If you're looking for somewhere to relax and unwind this is the place, we felt so instantly at home staying here and it really is as gorgeous as it looks in the photos.
